Barack Obama believes that deporting 12 million people is ridiculous and impractical, he thinks that immigration raids are ineffective, and supports the DREAM Act for the children of illegal immigrants. He does not believe we have allocated enough for the health care of illegal immigrants. He does not think that illegals should be able to work, but that they should have a path to citizenship. He would not deputize Americans to turn in illegal immigrants. He supports government services provided in Spanish and granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. He would extend welfare and Medicaid to immigrants and provide funding for social services for noncitizens.

During the Democratic primary, Sen. Barack Obama made a crucial decision to appeal to his party’s most liberal base: He embraced the idea of giving driver’s licenses to any illegal immigrant who wanted one. Hillary Clinton opposed the idea. She believed she could not win the general election taking such a position. Now, if a Republican group has its way, Obama will suffer defeat at the polls for supporting such a program.
